Ladies Centenary Golf Day
|
The Main golfing event to celebrate the Centenary of the Ladies section was held on Sunday 2nd September 2007, and took the form of a better ball pairs Stableford competition. The event had been organised by the Ladies Centenary Committee, chaired by Past Lady Captain Mrs Jean Holloway, and there was a suberb turnout of over 120 participants on a fine Autumn day, with the course in first class condition.
Prizes included such things as a car and holidays for two for a Hole-in-one at any of the par 3's, none of which unfortunately were won, but prizes for "Nearest-The-Pin " at all the Par 3's and "Nearest-The-White-Line" at the 18th fairway for both Ladies and Gents all saw successful players walk away with good rewards for their efforts.
There were prizes ranging from £15 to £100 per player for the first 6 best team scores, and after a meal for all competitors a large audience in the Clubhouse acclaimed those who had come out on top.
The results of the Competition were amazingly close, with the first 3 places all being achieved with scores of 47 points and "Best Last Nine" having to be used to separate the three positions. The next three places were all filled by pairs with 46 Points, and again they all had to be separated by the "Best Last Nine" scores.
The competition was open to Mixed Pairs, two Ladies, or two Gents, and very fittingly it was won by two Ladies, even more fittingly by a Past Lady Captain, Irene Miller, and her team-mate June Walker, another Member. Their score of 47 Stableford points included a back nine of 23 points. June was unfortunately unable to be present for the Prizegiving but Irene is shown here being presented with their awards by Lady Captain Joanna Scott.

Second place went to Dorothy McTaggart and her guest, husband David, with a back nine score of 22 points - we wonder who missed the putt that had them saying "if only....."! However they were clearly delighted to receive their prizes from Lady Captain Joanna. |
| Third position went to Lynne Wallace and her guest Jim Elliot, also on a great score of 47, which normally would have been a winning achievement. They had a fantastic 28 points in the first nine but the back nine was "only" 19 points. Again they received their prizes from Lady captain Joanna with Jean Holloway looking on. |

To commemorate the Ladies Section Centenary the Society of Past Captains of Cathkin Braes Golf Club donated a Board to the Ladies Section containing the photographs of many of the previous Lady Captains. The opportunity was taken to present it after the Prizegiving and here Dr David Campbell, Chairman of the Society, is shown handing over the Board to Lady Captain Joanna Scott.
