Derivation Cliff: along most of the right of this hole there is a steep drop.
Description Regarded by most as the signature hole of the Course, the drive here from the Medal Tee is a test of both judgement and skill. Dense trees on the left means the slightest pull is punished, and a mixture of heather and gorse on the right catches anything more than 10 degrees off line to the right unless it is an enormous drive. The elbow of the sharp dog-leg to the right is 200 yards away, but carrying it means going an additional 50 yards before clearing more heather. Two bunkers enclosing the Green at the front demand an accurate second shot, and the difficulty of this longest Par 4 is compounded by normally being played into the wind.
